Will Apple launch iPhone SE 2?

Whether Apple makes a modern equivalent to the iPhone SE, nobody knows. Possibly not even Apple; they at least gave every appearance of not planning the SE itself, but instead of throwing it together (no slur on its build quality intended; it’s a very nice phone) to meet an unexpectedly strong demand.
Remember that it was a sort of oddball, recycled product: the insides (mostly) of a 6s in the body of a 5s. Relatively little effort, enabling a relatively low price. Worked great…. but it was clearly a temporary move; it couldn’t be otherwise. At some point, they’re not going to want their brand new phones to look like old ones, any more than Toyota still wants to sell cars that look like they’re from 1993, however modern they are in function.
So it matters how many bought the SE because it was the least expensive new iPhone available vs. those who really did buy it because they couldn’t stand anything even slightly larger, such as the iPhone 6. Because where things are now, suiting each would require different products.
The SE’s original price was $399. The iPhone 7 is now selling for $449. Not a large difference, especially considering the prices of this year’s models. So those who want the SE for its price shouldn’t be too upset.
For size, I don’t know how well the all-screen designs would shrink to iPhone 5 size, from either a technical or usability standpoint. Most of the internal loss would have to be battery, so you’re probably going to be unhappy already. And it’s still going to cost, oh, say $699 for the XR Mini and $899 for the XS Mini. Maybe there’s a significant market for that; if so, like the SE itself, they’ll probably discover that and try to meet it in a year or two
